Dynamic Positioning Basic Training Classroom and practice

Content

The course provide the participants with the basic theoretical and practical knowledge of dynamic positioning as required by the Nautical Institute (NI) training scheme, phase A. The participants will perform practical exercises on different DP systems and become familiar with the operating functions, principles and practical use of the DP systems.

The training course will be delivered through a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises on various DP systems. All training material, and lectures are conducted in English.

Learning objectives

On passing the exam the candidate may proceed to log 60 DP days on a DP vessel in order to attend the DP Simulator course.

Examination

An exam is required at the end of the course. If a candidate fails the first exam one is allowed to re-sit the exam on the same day. Take this into account when making return travel arrangements.

Prerequisites

Participants must hold a STCW certificate (II-1, II-2, III-3 Deck or III-1, III-2, III-3 engine) or be in training for such a STCW certificate.

Audience

Navigators and engineers that use DP systems, especially those that intend to qualify according to Nautical Institute’s DP Operator Certification scheme.
