Following completion of the polar code advanced course the attendant should:
- Have a thorough understanding of the requirements to ship structure, stability, machinery, rescue equipment and rescue means, fire protection, voyage planning, ship routing, navigation systems and instruments, pollution prevention and equipment, safety and security management systems in operation at the various ship types which can execute polar voyages.
- Ability to sustain safe operation of ships in polar waters
Awareness of current legislation and conforming to these in polar waters
- Understanding and knowledge of safe job execution and how to react in an emergency situation.
- Understanding and knowledge of adhering to environmental requirements and pollution prevention
- Undertanding and knowledge of safe manouvering of ships in polar waters
Prerequisites
Before attending this course the navigator should have Ship Operation in Polar Waters - Basic and accumulated at least 3 months of sea time in polar waters.
