Operating Ships on LNG - Advanced Classroom and practice
The course is developed for safe operations of ships designed according to the IGF code, using Natural gas (LNG) as fuel. The course is designed according to new requirements of the STCW Chapter V - Special training requirements for seafarers on ships using gases or other low-flashpoint fuels. The course meets the requirements of the STCW Convention draft amendment Part A, Chapter V - Special training Requirements given in table AV / 3-1 and AV / 3-2. (ref. HTW 1/21 annex 5)
Learning objectives
The course runs over 4 days with themes and topics as indicated in the table below with focus on security and issues related to gaseous fuels. Instruction is provided in suitable facilities with appropriate audio-visual aids, and in the lab with access to the necessary equipment and facilities for practical training and exercises, including simulator exercises. It requires no special prerequisites beyond what STCW requirements to the individual participant's crew function on board. Attendants will be provided with theoretical and practical exams. Theoretical examination is of a "multiple choice".

Audience
The course is tailored specifically for engine officers / deck officers and crew who are responsible for operations to LNG fueled machinery and handling of gaseous fuels onboard LNG fueled ships. The course is also aimed at teaching staff and instructors who are training maritime crew of vocational schools, colleges and training centers. The course is designed according to IMO model courses, and the course plans under development in the Norwegian Maritime Directorate.
